Government of India Grants Exemption on Import of Aerospace Grade Hydrogen Peroxide for Space R&D

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers received a representation from the Satcom Industry Association (SIA) requesting an exemption from the applicability of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standard IS 2080:2021. This standard was made mandatory under the Hydrogen Peroxide (Quality Control) Order, 2022, notified on 24th August 2022. However, upon review, the BIS clarified that the Indian Standard does not include any categorization or specification for Aerospace Grade Hydrogen Peroxide used in space R&D.

Recognizing the unique requirements of the aerospace sector and the absence of relevant standards, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in consultation with BIS, decided to grant an exemption for the import of Aerospace Grade Hydrogen Peroxide for non-commercial R&D purposes.
