BIS Standards on Footwear
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is a national standard-setting body in India. It has established a set of standards for footwear in the country. These standards cover a range of factors, including the quality of materials used, the design and construction of footwear, and the safety and comfort of footwear for consumers. BIS also oversees the certification process for footwear manufacturers and ensures that they comply with these standards. This helps to ensure that consumers in India can purchase high-quality, safe, and comfortable footwear that meets their needs.
As per the Quality Control Orders on Footwear Products issued by DPIIT, 27 footwear products have been brought under compulsory BIS certification with effect from 1 July 2021. However, this implementation was Voluntary so far and not mandated.
Now, the mandatory implementation date for the Leather Footwear QCO as well as the Rubber Footwear QCO is 01st July 2023. The Notifications are attached herewith below.
As per the attached list the given BIS standards either fall under The Leather QCO Amendment Order, 2022 or The Rubber Footwear QCO Amendment Order, 2022. We have attached the excel sheet with 3 columns with our remarks, regulating guidelines and Implementation status at this moment. Attached are the relevant DPIIT Notifications also for ready references.
