DGFT India (Govt of India) Restricts Import of Laptop, Computers, Tablets & Servers
The Office of The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) India has issued Notification No 23/2023 dtd 03rd August 2023 which has put “restriction” on the import of New Laptops, Computers, Tablets, and Servers falling under ITC(HS) chapter 8471 with immediate effect, subject to Policy condition No 4 of Chapter 84.
Exemptions:
- Restrictions is not applicable to imports under Baggage Rules, as amended from time to time.
- Only 1 (one) Number (No) of either of the products falling under ITC(HS) 8471 will be exempted from licensing if purchased from an e-Commerce portal and imported by post or courier subject to payment of applicable import duty.
- Exemption is given for upto 20 Nos of such items imported for R&D purposes, testing, benchmarking & evaluation, repair & re-export.
- The said products which are a part of Capital goods shall remain exempted from licensing requirements.
Effective Date: with immediate effect.
