DGFT Notifies New SION for Sodium Citrate Exports
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued Public Notice No. 9/2025-26 dated 10th June 2025, notifying a new Standard Input Output Norm (SION). The new entry, designated as SION A-3686, has been included under the Chemical and Allied Product Group (Product Code ‘A’) for the export product Sodium Citrate.
This update enhances transparency in export-import norms and provides pre-defined raw material entitlements for exporters operating under the Advance Authorisation Scheme.

What is a SION?
A Standard Input Output Norm (SION) defines the quantities of inputs required to produce a unit quantity of an export product. These norms are crucial for exporters availing benefits under the Advance Authorisation Scheme, enabling duty-free import of inputs for manufacturing export goods.
By notifying a new SION, DGFT facilitates easier processing of Advance Authorisation applications, eliminates ambiguity in input-output calculations, and supports compliance with international quality and quantity standards.
Significance of SION A-3686
The inclusion of SION A-3686 for Sodium Citrate offers the following benefits:
- Predictability and Compliance: Fixed input norms help exporters plan their procurement and production more efficiently.
- Ease of Advance Authorisation: Exporters of Sodium Citrate can now apply for authorisations without needing to justify input norms afresh.
- Sectoral Support: Supports the chemical industry with a standardized framework, boosting global competitiveness.
Policy Basis
The public notice was issued under Paragraph 1.03 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, which empowers DGFT to update and notify new SIONs to align with evolving trade requirements and production practices.
Conclusion
With the issuance of SION A-3686, the DGFT has taken another step toward simplifying India’s export processes and supporting the growth of the chemical and allied products sector. This change is particularly beneficial for exporters of Sodium Citrate, providing them with a clear entitlement for input imports and enhancing India’s overall ease of doing business in the global trade ecosystem.
