In a significant move to regulate imports, the Government of India has issued Notification No. 24/2025-26, dated 11 August 2025, under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. ​ This notification imposes port restrictions on the import of specific goods from Bangladesh to India, particularly focusing on jute products. ​ The decision is aimed at streamlining trade policies and ensuring compliance with the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023. ​

Details of the Notification

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), through this notification, has amended the import policy under ITC (HS), 2022 Schedule 1. ​ The following jute-related products from Bangladesh are now subject to port restrictions:

  1. Bleached and unbleached woven fabrics of Jute or other textile bast fibre (HS Code: 531090) ​
  2. Twine, cordage, rope, etc., of Jute (HS Code: 560890) ​
  3. Twine, cordage, rope, and cables (HS Code: 560790) ​
  4. Sacks and bags of Jute (HS Code: 630510) ​

Port Restriction Details ​ Imports of these goods from Bangladesh are now restricted to the Nhava Sheva Seaport. ​ Importation through any land port along the India-Bangladesh border is strictly prohibited. ​ This measure is expected to enhance monitoring and control over the import of these goods.
