India and Morocco Set Ambitious Goal to Double Bilateral Trade in Five Years

India and Morocco have taken a significant step forward in their economic partnership, agreeing to double their bilateral trade within the next five years. This landmark decision was reached during the official visit of Shri Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics & Information Technology, to Morocco, where he co-chaired the 7th India-Morocco Joint Commission with Moroccan officials.

Strengthening Economic Ties

The visit underscored the enduring and mutually beneficial relationship between the two nations, which has gained strategic momentum under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and King Mohammed VI. The Joint Commission meeting provided fresh impetus to trade and investment cooperation, with both sides expressing a strong commitment to expanding economic engagement.

Key Outcomes of the Visit

Doubling Bilateral Trade
- India and Morocco have set a clear target to double their trade volume over the next five years, reflecting confidence in the growth potential of their economic relationship.
- A Joint Working Group will be established to explore the possibility of a Preferential Trade Agreement, which could further facilitate trade flows.
Investment Opportunities
- Shri Jitin Prasada invited Moroccan businesses to invest in India, highlighting opportunities in sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicles, Renewable Energy, Healthcare, and Pharmaceuticals.
- The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in industry and digital transformation, with a special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence.

- The partnership in phosphates and fertilizers remains a cornerstone of India-Morocco relations. Shri Prasada visited India-Marne Phosphore (IMACID), a joint venture between Morocco’s OCP Group and Indian partners, reaffirming the importance of this collaboration for India’s agricultural sector.
- The OCP Group reiterated its commitment to supplying phosphates and fertilizers to meet the needs of Indian farmers, ensuring stability in India’s fertilizer supply chains.
High-Level Bilateral Meetings
- Shri Prasada held meetings with key Moroccan ministers, including those responsible for foreign trade, industry, investment, and digital transition. These discussions aimed to identify new areas for mutually beneficial economic engagement and to advance cooperation in trade, investment, and digital innovation.

- The Minister engaged with the Indian business community and diaspora in Morocco, emphasizing their vital role in strengthening bilateral ties and encouraging deeper partnerships across sectors.

India and Morocco will mark the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027, a milestone that will be celebrated with the 8th Joint Commission meeting in New Delhi.
