Customs Board on Import of Electronic & IT Goods (BIS Registration) in India

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, on 21.12.23 issued instruction for implementation and streamlining the process & sampling of electronic & IT Goods – Mandatory Registration in BIS (in terms of DGFT Notification No. 50/2015-2020 dated 08.01.19, & 32/2015-2020 dated 17.09.20 and MeitY OM No. 37(4)/2018-IPHW dated 11.12.18, as:

  1. Custom officer shall check for BIS Registration in the system in all cases.
  2. The RMS shall randomly select the consignment for sampling
  3. The sample drawn shall be sent to BIS recognized labs for testing & limited defined non-destructive safety parameters from the IS standard applicable.
  4. Out of Charge shall be given only in case sample has complied with requirements
  5. In case of failure of the sample in compliance, the consignment is to be sent back or destroyed at the cost of the importer.
