DPIIT Enforces Mandatory BIS Certification for Electric Fence Energizers

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), issued the Electric Fence Energizers (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016. This order enforces mandatory quality compliance for electric fence energizers to ensure safety and standardization.

Key Provisions of the Order:

  1. Mandatory BIS Certification:
  • All Electric Fence Energizers must conform to Indian Standard IS 302-2-76:1999.
  • They must bear the BIS Standard Mark under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

2. Implementation Timeline:

  • General Enterprises: Compliance mandatory within 6 months from the date of notification.
  • Small Enterprises: Compliance mandatory within 9 months from the date of notification.
  • Micro Enterprises: Compliance mandatory within 12 months from the date of notification.

3. Exemptions:

  • The order does not apply to electric fence energizers manufactured exclusively for export.

4. Enforcement & Certification Authority:

  • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will be responsible for enforcing compliance and issuing certifications.

5. Penalties for Non-Compliance:

  • Any violation of this order will attract penalties under the BIS Act, 2016.
