Extension on the Annual RoDTEP Return (ARR) Filing Deadline for 2023-24
Introduction
Exporters in India have received a much-needed extension for filing their Annual RoDTEP Return (ARR) for the financial year 2023-24. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, issued Public Notice No. 51/2024-25 on March 19, 2025, announcing the deadline extension from March 31, 2025, to June 30, 2025, with an additional grace period up to September 30, 2025.
This decision, taken under Paragraphs 1.03 and 2.04 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, provides exporters with additional time to ensure compliance with the RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) scheme.
What is RoDTEP?
The RoDTEP scheme is a key initiative introduced by the Government of India to refund duties and taxes that are not covered under the existing Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. It aims to make Indian exports more competitive by ensuring that no embedded taxes and levies remain as a cost to exporters.
Key Highlights of the Extension
- Original Deadline: March 31, 2025
- Extended Deadline: June 30, 2025
- Grace Period: September 30, 2025
- Applies To: All exporters who availed RoDTEP benefits in FY 2023-24
Impact on Exporters
- Additional Time for Compliance: Exporters now have an extra three months to ensure accurate filing of ARR.
- Reduced Risk of Late Submission: The grace period till September 30, 2025, prevents exporters from facing penalties.
- Easier Documentation Process: The extension allows exporters to verify their data, claims, and supporting documents before submission.
- Encouragement for Small & Medium Exporters: Many MSMEs involved in exports can now streamline their filing process without the pressure of a tight deadline.
Why This Extension Matters
Exporters face numerous regulatory requirements, and any delay in compliance can lead to financial penalties and disruptions in trade benefits. The governmentโs decision to extend the ARR deadline ensures that exporters have sufficient time to align their records, claim benefits, and avoid any last-minute errors.
Next Steps for Exporters
- Ensure all RoDTEP-related documentation is in order.
- Review past filings and verify calculations to avoid discrepancies.
- Utilize the extension period to resolve any doubts with DGFT or relevant authorities.
Conclusion
The extension of the Annual RoDTEP Return (ARR) filing deadline is a positive move by the government, offering exporters greater flexibility and compliance ease. Businesses should take full advantage of this extension to ensure error-free submissions and continue benefiting from RoDTEP incentives.
