MoS Revises Advance SIMS Registration Timelines for Steel Imports from UAE, Singapore, Bhutan
The Ministry of Steel, Government of India, has issued an important update regarding the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) 2.0. This modification, effective from August 5, 2025, revises the advance registration periods for importing steel products from specific countries. The changes aim to streamline the import process and ensure better monitoring of steel imports.
Key Updates to Advance Registration Periods
The updated guidelines specify the advance registration periods for steel imports from the following countries:
- Nepal and Bhutan:
- Registration must be completed not earlier than 60 days and not later than 2 days before the expected arrival of the import consignment.
- UAE and Oman:
- Registration must be completed not earlier than 60 days and not later than 4 days before the expected arrival of the import consignment.
- Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia:
- Registration must be completed not earlier than 60 days and not later than 5 days before the expected arrival of the import consignment.
Special Provisions for HS Code 7204
For items covered under specific HS codes of heading 7204 of ITC(HS), 2022, the advance registration period remains consistent across all countries:
- Not earlier than 60 days and not later than 2 days before the expected arrival of the import consignment.
Other Countries and Items
For imports from countries and items not mentioned in this notice, the advance registration period will remain as per the Ministry’s earlier notice dated June 13, 2025.
Implementation Date
These updated guidelines will come into effect starting August 5, 2025. Importers are advised to ensure compliance with the revised registration timelines to avoid any disruptions in their import processes.
