CBIC Updates List of Authorised Officers for Food Imports at 165 Entry Points under FSSAI Regulations
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), a statutory authority established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, has recently issued a series of notifications regarding the designation of Authorized Officers at various food import entry points across India. These updates aim to streamline food import clearance processes and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Key Updates
In its latest notification dated August 6, 2025, FSSAI has expanded the list of food import entry points by notifying additional Authorized Officers under Section 25 read with Section 47(5) of the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006, and Regulation 13(1) of the FSS (Import) Regulation, 2017. This move is expected to enhance the efficiency of food import clearance at these points.

Role of Authorized Officers
Authorized Officers play a crucial role in ensuring that imported food products meet the required safety standards. They are responsible for inspecting, examining, and appraising food consignments at designated entry points. Their presence at these newly notified locations will help maintain the integrity of India’s food safety framework.
Conclusion
The FSSAI’s proactive approach in notifying additional Authorized Officers and entry points reflects its commitment to strengthening food safety standards in India.
