Union Minister Piyush Goyal Boosts India-Israel Cooperation in Agriculture, Technology and Trade

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, recently embarked on a significant official visit to Israel, marking a new chapter in the deepening of bilateral relations between the two nations. The visit, which took place from 20–22 November 2025, focused on advancing cooperation across agriculture, technology, innovation, and trade, showcasing the shared commitment of India and Israel to foster strategic partnerships.

Advancing Agricultural Collaboration

On 21 November, Shri Goyal met with Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Avi Dichter, to discuss innovative agricultural practices and food security strategies. Israel’s 25-year food-security roadmap, advanced seed-improvement techniques, and global leadership in water-reuse technologies for agriculture were key highlights of the discussion. Shri Goyal’s visit to Kibbutz Ramat Rachel further emphasized Israel’s sustainable agricultural practices and community-driven innovation, offering valuable insights into rural development and sustainability.

Exploring Israel’s Technological Ecosystem

Shri Goyal visited the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, where he witnessed Israel’s groundbreaking technological advancements. From drip irrigation systems to stent technologies and the Iron Dome system, the Minister was introduced to innovations that have positioned Israel as a global leader in technology. He also experienced demonstrations of emerging technologies, including autonomous mobility solutions by Mobileye, showcasing precision engineering in next-generation transportation.

Strengthening Economic and Trade Relations

The visit began with a meeting between Shri Goyal and Israel’s Minister of Economy, Mr. Nir Barkat, on 20 November. The leaders reviewed the current trajectory of bilateral trade and explored new areas of collaboration. The India–Israel Business Forum, attended by senior industry leaders, highlighted opportunities in fintech, agritech, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, machine learning, pharmaceuticals, space, and defence. Shri Goyal emphasized the trust-based foundation of India–Israel relations and the immense potential for growth in these sectors.

A significant milestone of the visit was the signing of the Terms of Reference for the India–Israel Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to boosting trade, investment, and technological cooperation, expressing confidence in constructive negotiations for a balanced and mutually beneficial FTA.

Industry Engagements and Strategic Partnerships

Shri Goyal engaged with senior leadership from leading Israeli companies, including Check Point (cybersecurity), IDE Technologies (water solutions), NTA (metro projects), and Netafim (precision agriculture). Discussions focused on areas closely aligned with India’s development priorities, such as cybersecurity, water management, urban mobility, and advanced irrigation technologies.

Strengthening Cultural and Economic Bonds

The Minister also interacted with Israeli media and members of the diamond community, a cornerstone of India–Israel trade relations. At the India–Israel CEOs Forum, Shri Goyal highlighted the resilience and growing potential of the bilateral economic partnership, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in strategic sectors.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Shri Piyush Goyal’s visit to Israel underscored the shared vision of India and Israel to deepen economic ties, expand technological collaboration, and strengthen cooperation across sectors of mutual importance. The engagements during the visit reflect the commitment of both nations to work together towards innovation, sustainability, and prosperity.
