RBI Announces Extended Trade Relief Measures to Support Exporters Amid Global Challenges
In light of ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and logistical disruptions, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced significant trade relief measures to support exporters facing challenges in adhering to timelines for the realization of export proceeds. β These measures aim to provide flexibility and ease to exporters during these challenging times. β
Extension of Time Period for Realisation of Export Proceeds β
The RBI had previously extended the time period for the realization and repatriation of the full export value of goods, software, and services exported from India. β As per Press Release No. β 2025-2026/1510 dated November 14, 2025, this period was increased from nine months to fifteen months from the date of export. β The RBI has now clarified that these relaxations will continue to remain in force, allowing exporters to avail of this extended timeline under the stipulated conditions. β
Enhanced Export Credit Period β
To further support exporters, the RBI had earlier enhanced the period for the realization of both pre-shipment and post-shipment export credit to 450 days for disbursals made until March 31, 2026. β Considering the ongoing logistical disruptions caused by the West Asia crisis, the RBI has decided to extend this enhanced export credit period of 450 days for all disbursals made until June 30, 2026. β This extension provides additional time for exporters to manage their financial obligations effectively. β
Issuance of Directions β
To formalize these measures, the Reserve Bank of India has issued the “Trade Relief Measures Directions, 2026” on March 31, 2026. β These directions outline the details of the extended timelines and conditions under which exporters can avail of the relief measures. β
RBIβs Commitment to Monitoring the Situation β
The RBI has assured stakeholders that it will continue to monitor the evolving geopolitical and logistical situation closely. β The central bank remains committed to intervening in the most appropriate manner as and when required to support exporters and ensure stability in trade operations. β
Conclusion
The Reserve Bank of Indiaβs trade relief measures provide much-needed support to exporters during a period of uncertainty and disruption. β By extending the timelines for export proceeds realization and export credit, the RBI aims to alleviate the financial pressures faced by exporters and ensure the smooth functioning of trade activities. β Exporters are encouraged to utilize these facilities in accordance with the stipulated conditions to navigate the challenges posed by the current global scenario.
