Tea Board India Launches Nationwide Web-Based Traceability Portal for Tea Imports and Re-Exports

The Tea Board of India has announced the rollout of a comprehensive web-based traceability system for all tea imports and their subsequent re-exports, effective from May 1, 2026. This initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring the quality, safety, and transparency of tea entering and leaving the country.

Key Highlights of the New Traceability System

Mandatory Physical Sampling and Laboratory Testing
- Every consignment of tea imported into India must undergo physical sampling and laboratory testing starting May 1, 2026.
- This measure is designed to uphold the highest standards of tea quality and safety for both domestic consumption and re-export.
Introduction of the Tea Council Portal
- The Tea Board has developed a dedicated online portal to manage the end-to-end traceability of tea imports and exports.
- The portal will be operational nationwide from 00:00 hrs on May 1, 2026.
- Stakeholders can access the portal at: https://teacouncil.teaboard.gov.in/showHomePage
Transition from the Old Portal
- The existing Tea Council portal (http://teacouncil.teaauction.gov.in/Home.aspx) will cease operations at 23:59 hrs on April 30, 2026.
- All users must transition to the new portal for all future transactions and compliance requirements.
One-Time Licence Validation and Profile Update
- Stakeholders are required to log in to the new portal and complete a one-time validation of their licences in the profile section, following the attached user manual.
- Accurate details of ports and warehouses must be provided to facilitate sample collection by Tea Board officials.
