Six New SIONs Notified for Chemical and Allied Products to Streamline Export Authorizations
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has announced the fixation of six new Standard Input Output Norms (SIONs) for export products in the Chemical and Allied Products group. This move aims to streamline and expedite the process of issuing export authorizations, benefiting exporters and ensuring greater uniformity in decision-making.
What Are SIONs?
Standard Input Output Norms (SIONs) specify the quantity of inputs required to produce a unit of export product. These norms are crucial for exporters seeking Advance Authorizations, as they determine the permissible quantity of duty-free imports for manufacturing export goods.
Details of the Newly Notified SIONs
The six new SIONs, assigned serial numbers A-3702 to A-3707, cover key pharmaceutical and chemical products. Below is a summary of the new norms:
| SION No. | Export Product | Export Qty. | Import Item | Qty. Allowed |
| A-3702 | Artemether PH.I/ USP | 1 kg | Artemisinin | 1.04 kg |
| Trimethyl Ortho Acetate | 0.50 kg | |||
| A-3703 | Artesunate PH.I | 1 kg | Artemisinin | 0.80 kg |
| A-3704 | Dihydro Artemisinin | 1 kg | Artemisinin | 0.92 kg |
| A-3705 | Doxycycline Hyclate DR Tablets USP 100 mg | 1 tablet | Doxycycline Hyclate USP | 117.72 mg |
| A-3706 | Doxycycline Hyclate DR Tablets USP 150 mg | 1 tablet | Doxycycline Hyclate USP | 176.58 mg |
| A-3707 | Doxycycline Hyclate DR Tablets USP 200 mg | 1 tablet | Doxycycline Hyclate USP | 235.44 mg |
Key Benefits of the Notification
- Faster Export Authorization
- Regional Authorities (RAs) can now issue Advance Authorizations directly for these products, without referring each case to the Norms Committee.
- Uniformity in Decision-Making
- Standardized norms ensure consistent and transparent processing of export applications.
- Support for Exporters
- By clarifying input-output ratios, exporters can plan their imports and production more efficiently.
Impact on the Chemical and Allied Products Sector
This notification is expected to:
- Reduce administrative delays for exporters of pharmaceutical and chemical products.
- Encourage higher exports by simplifying compliance requirements.
- Enhance India’s competitiveness in the global chemical and pharmaceutical markets.
Conclusion
The fixation of these six new SIONs marks a significant step towards facilitating ease of doing business for exporters in the Chemical and Allied Products sector. Exporters are encouraged to review the new norms and leverage the streamlined process for their export operations.
