Guide to Late Filing of SARAL SIMS Returns for FY 2025-26
The Ministry of Steel has issued an important notice regarding the late filing of SARAL SIMS Returns for the financial year 2025-26. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the new provisions, deadlines, and procedures for importers who missed the original and extended filing deadlines.
Background
The SARAL Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) is a regulatory requirement for importers in India, overseen by the Ministry of Steel. For FY 2025-26, the original deadline for submitting the annual SARAL SIMS Return was set for 30th April 2026. Recognizing the challenges faced by importers, the Ministry extended this deadline to 15th May 2026.
New Provisions for Late Filing
Despite the extension, some importers were unable to file their returns on time. To support compliance and ease of doing business, the Ministry has now allowed late filing of SARAL SIMS Returns with the payment of a Late Return Filing Fee. This process is designed to be transparent and efficient, eliminating the need for manual intervention.
Late Return Filing Fee Structure
| Timeline | Late Return Filing Fee (INR) |
| Up to 30th June 2026 | 5,000 |
| 1st July to 31st July 2026 | 10,000 |
- Up to 30th June 2026: Importers can file their returns by paying a late fee of INR 5,000.
- 1st July to 31st July 2026: Returns filed during this period will incur a late fee of INR 10,000.
How to File Late Returns
- Access the SARAL SIMS Portal: The facility for late filing is available online. Importers should log in to the SARAL SIMS Portal.
- Pay the Applicable Fee: Select the relevant late fee based on your filing date.
- Submit the Return: Complete the return filing process as per the portal instructions.
Important Advisory
Importers are strongly advised to file their pending returns as soon as possible to avoid higher late fees and ensure uninterrupted access to SARAL SIMS registration services. Delays beyond 31st July 2026 may result in additional penalties or restrictions.
