Amendment to Cross Recessed Screws Quality Control Order- 2025
The Ministry of Steel, Government of India, has issued an important amendment to the Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Order, 2025. This update, published on June 20, 2026, introduces significant changes that stakeholders in the manufacturing, import, and distribution of cross recessed screws should be aware of.
Background
The original Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Order, 2025, was established to ensure that cross recessed screws manufactured or sold in India meet specific quality standards as defined by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The order mandated compliance with certain Indian Standards (IS) numbers and titles, aiming to enhance product reliability and safety in the market.
Key Highlights of the 2026 Amendment
- Supersession of Previous Order
- The new order supersedes the 2025 Quality Control Order, except for actions already taken or omitted under the previous order.
- This ensures continuity for past compliance while updating the regulatory framework moving forward.
- Temporary Suspension of Certain Standards
- Enforcement of the IS Number and IS Title at serial numbers 12 (18507: 2024), 13 (18508: 2024), and 14 (18509: 2023) in the 2025 order is suspended.
- This suspension will last for three years from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
- During this period, the requirements related to these specific standards will not be operative, providing temporary regulatory relief to manufacturers and importers.
- Legal Authority
- The amendment is issued under Section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, after consultation with the BIS and in the public interest.
Implications for Industry Stakeholders
- Manufacturers and Importers: Those dealing with cross recessed screws covered under serial numbers 12, 13, and 14 can temporarily operate without adhering to the suspended standards. This may ease compliance burdens and allow for adjustments in production or sourcing.
- Quality Assurance: While certain standards are suspended, overall quality control remains in effect for other categories. Stakeholders should continue to comply with all other operative standards.
- Regulatory Planning: The three-year window provides time for industry participants to adapt to future requirements or changes that may be introduced after the suspension period.
Official Reference
- The amendment was published as S.O. 3298(E) on June 20, 2026, and is effective from the date of publication.
- The original 2025 order was published as S.O. 3927(E) on August 27, 2025.
Conclusion
This amendment reflects the government’s responsive approach to industry needs while maintaining a focus on public interest and product quality. Stakeholders should review their compliance strategies in light of these changes and stay updated on further notifications from the Ministry of Steel and the Bureau of Indian Standards.
