The Sanitary Import Permit (SIP) is a mandatory requirement for all importers in this sector. 1. Product List in Excel Format
- Details to Include:
- Product name, brand/trade name (if applicable)
- HS code
- List of ingredients with their percentage by weight or formulation
- Animal species (scientific and common names) used as raw material
- Package size, number of packages, and total weight
- Purpose: Ensures transparency and traceability of all products intended for import.
2. Detailed Product Literature or Catalogue
- What to Submit:
- Official documents from the producer/manufacturer (not the consignor, if different)
- Must specify product name, composition, intended use, manufacturing process, source of raw material (wild-caught or aquaculture), storage conditions, and shelf life
- Valid approval/registration certificate of the manufacturing/processing establishment from the competent authority of the exporting country, with English translation if needed
- Purpose: Verifies the authenticity and compliance of the manufacturing process and facility.
3. Process Flow Chart
- Requirements:
- Flow chart owned by the manufacturer/producer
- Must include all critical control points (CCPs), where applicable
- Purpose: Demonstrates the safety and quality control measures in place during production.
4. Chemical and Microbiological Data Sheet (Certificate of Analysis)
- Key Points:
- Certificate of Analysis (CoA) must show actual test results as per Indian regulations
- Issued by the manufacturerβs lab, a certified lab in the exporting country, or an NABL-accredited lab
- Product and manufacturer details must match those in the Veterinary Health Certificate

5. End Use Undertaking
- How to Submit:
- Declaration on the importerβs letterhead, with current date and signature
- Purpose: Clarifies the intended use of the imported products.
6. Utilization Certificate of Previous SIPs
- Details Needed:
- Information on previously utilized SIPs in a specified format
- Copy of Bill of Entry (BoE) for each utilized SIP
- Purpose: Tracks the usage of previously granted permits and prevents misuse.
7. Importer/Exporter Declarations
- Mandatory Statements:
- Compliance with Indian requirements and veterinary health protocols
- Confirmation that products do not contain beef, beef products, or wild animal species (unless approved under wildlife norms/CITES)
- Raw materials sourced from approved species and countries, with supporting certificates if sourced internationally
