DGFT Extends Minimum Import Price on Glufosinate Imports Until April 2027
India has extended the Minimum Import Price (MIP) condition for imports of glufosinate and its salts until 12 April 2027, maintaining the existing terms set in April 2026.
Government notification at a glance
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, issued Notification No. 3/2026-27 in October 2026 to extend the import-policy measure. The decision is made under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 and the Foreign Trade Policy 2023.
The extension continues the MIP requirement that was originally imposed through Notification No. 10/2026-27 dated 13 April 2026. No other terms or conditions of that earlier notification have been changed.
Products covered by the extension
The MIP condition applies to glufosinate and its salts classified under Chapter 38 of Schedule I of Indiaβs ITC (HS), 2022 import policy. The covered HS codes are:
- 38089193
- 38089199
- 38089361
- 38089391
- 38089399
- 38089912
- 38089991
- 38089999
Glufosinate is commonly used as an active ingredient in herbicide products. Importers dealing in products classified under these codes must therefore continue to account for the applicable MIP condition when planning shipments to India.
What the extension means for importers
The measure does not introduce a new import restriction or amend the existing compliance framework. Instead, it preserves the current MIP requirement for a further period, through 12 April 2027.
For businesses importing glufosinate or its salts, the practical implications include:
- Continued pricing compliance: Import consignments under the listed HS codes remain subject to the existing minimum import price condition.
- Longer planning horizon: The extension provides regulatory continuity for imports through April 2027.
- Classification importance: Importers should ensure that product classification is accurate, as the notification applies specifically to the eight listed Chapter 38 HS codes.
- Existing conditions remain in force: Since the DGFT has retained all other terms of the April 2026 notification, compliance should be assessed against that underlying notification as well as the extension.
Policy significance
By extending rather than replacing the MIP condition, the government has signaled continuity in its approach to regulating imports of these glufosinate products. The notificationβs effect is limited to prolonging the validity period of the existing measure; it does not state any revised MIP amount or additional eligibility criteria.
The extension takes effect under the DGFT notification and keeps the MIP requirement in place until 12 April 2027 for the specified glufosinate and salt product classifications.
