Important update on LMPC Regn for Importers

In exercise of the powers conferred by Rule 33(1) & Rule 6 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged commodity) Rules 2011, The Department of Consumer affairs, Govt of India has issued a letter dtd 28/04/2021, to the Director General of Foreign Trade & all the state LM departments stating that LMPC regn for Importers is not required at the time of customs clearance. This is only a temporary waiver which shall be in place for some time to expedite the customs clearance of the COVID-19 related equipment’s as mentioned in the letter.
These are temporary measures in place to facilitate the import and expedite the customs clearance process across all Indian customs port. However, it is absolutely clarified in the letter that the Importer must obtain the LMPC regn before they sell it in the market after import clearance is done.
Effect: Importers can clear their imported consignments without LMPC regn but can not sell it in the market without obtaining the LMPC regn for Importers under Rule 27.
