Inviting TRQ Applications under India-UK CETA for 2026

Dated: 21.07.2026

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has issued a public notice inviting applications for Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) allocations under the India-United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) for the calendar year 2026. This initiative aims to facilitate the import of specific automotive products at preferential tariff rates, supporting trade growth between India and the UK.

What is a Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ)?

A TRQ allows a set quantity of specific goods to be imported at a reduced tariff rate. Once the quota is filled, higher tariffs apply to additional imports. This mechanism helps balance domestic industry interests with international trade commitments.

Eligible Products and Quotas

Applications are invited for the following automotive products imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs):

  1. Passenger Motor Vehicles (CBUs)
    • Engine capacity not exceeding 1500 cc:
      • TRQ Quantity: 2,329 units
    • Engine capacity exceeding 1500 cc but not exceeding 3000 cc (petrol) or exceeding 1500 cc but not exceeding 2500 cc (diesel):
      • TRQ Quantity: 2,329 units
    • Engine capacity more than 3000 cc (petrol) or more than 2500 cc (diesel):
      • TRQ Quantity: 4,658 units
  2. Motor Vehicles for Transport of Goods (CBUs, excluding electric or hydrogen vehicles):
    • TRQ Quantity: 1,164 units

Application Window

  • Start Date: 21 July 2026
  • End Date: 04 August 2026

Application Procedure

  • Applications must be submitted as per the arrangements and procedures outlined in Annexure-VII of Appendix 2A of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), 2023.
  • For detailed procedures, refer to Public Notice No. 19/2026-27 dated 09.07.2026.
  • All goods must not have been registered prior to importation.
