This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure the Maldives has access to critical resources, supporting its food security and infrastructure development. โ

Exemption from Export Restrictions โ
The notification provides a significant advantage to exporters by exempting these commodities from any existing or future restrictions or prohibitions during FY 2026-27. โ This ensures uninterrupted supply to the Maldives, even for items that may otherwise fall under restricted or prohibited categories. โ
Designated Customs Stations โ
To streamline the export process, the notification specifies six designated Customs stations through which the export of commodities falling under the prohibited or restricted category will be permitted. โ These are:
- Mundra Sea Port (INMUN1) โ
- Tuticorin Sea Port (INTUT1) โ
- Nhava Sheva Sea Port (INNSA1) โ
- ICD Tughlakabad (INTKD6) โ
- Kandla Sea Port (INIXY1) โ
- Visakhapatnam Sea Port (INVTZ1) โ
This measure ensures efficient handling and monitoring of exports, maintaining compliance with trade regulations. โ
Environmental Compliance for River Sand and Stone Aggregate โ
The export of River Sand and Stone Aggregate is subject to strict environmental regulations. โ CAPEXIL, the export promotion council, will oversee compliance with the following conditions:
- Suppliers and extractors must obtain the necessary environmental clearances. โ
- Mining activities must not be conducted in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas, as per the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification. โ
- Exporters must secure environmental clearances or No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the designated nodal authorities of the respective State Governments. โ
- Compliance with applicable State legislation or judicial orders related to mining is mandatory. โ
These measures reflect India’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmental protection. โ
Health Certification for Egg Exports โ
The export of eggs to the Maldives requires each consignment to be accompanied by a valid Export Health Certificate issued by the Export Inspection Council (EiC). โ This certificate must conform to the Codex Guidelines for the Design, Production, Issuance, and Use of Generic Official Certificates (CXG 38-2001), as mandated by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority. โ
This ensures that the exported eggs meet international food safety standards, safeguarding public health in the Maldives. โ
Impact of the Notification
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
This notification underscores India’s commitment to fostering strong trade relations with the Maldives. โ By ensuring the supply of essential commodities, India is playing a crucial role in supporting the Maldives’ food security and infrastructure development. โ
Streamlined Export Process โ
The exemption from export restrictions and the designation of specific Customs stations simplify the export process, ensuring timely delivery of goods. โ This is particularly important for commodities classified under restricted or prohibited categories. โ
Focus on Sustainability
The emphasis on environmental compliance for the export of River Sand and Stone Aggregate highlights India’s dedication to sustainable practices. โ By adhering to environmental regulations, India ensures that its trade activities do not harm the ecosystem. โ
Food Safety Standards โ
The requirement for health certification for egg exports demonstrates India’s commitment to maintaining high food safety standards, ensuring the quality of goods exported to the Maldives. โ
Conclusion
The Government of India’s decision to permit the export of essential commodities to the Maldives for FY 2026-27 is a significant step in fostering regional cooperation and supporting the Maldives’ economic and social development. โ By ensuring the availability of critical resources, this initiative strengthens the bilateral relationship between the two nations and underscores India’s role as a reliable partner in the region.
