DGFT Notifies Four New SIONs for Chemical & Allied Products: Streamlining Export Authorisations and Boosting Trade Efficiency
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has issued a public notice announcing the fixation of four new Standard Input Output Norms (SIONs) for export products in the Chemical & Allied Product Group. This significant update aims to streamline export procedures and enhance efficiency for exporters in this sector.
What Are SIONs?
Standard Input Output Norms (SIONs) are guidelines that specify the quantity of inputs required to produce a unit of export product. These norms are crucial for exporters seeking Advance Authorisations, as they determine the permissible quantity of imported raw materials duty-free for manufacturing export goods.
Details of the Newly Notified SIONs
The DGFT has introduced four new SIONs under Product Code ‘A’ for the Chemical & Allied Product Group. The details are as follows:
| SION No. | Export Product | Export Quantity | Import Item | Quantity Allowed |
| A-3698 | Cefuroxime Sterile Sodium | 1 kg | Cefuroxime Acid | 1.04 kg |
| A-3699 | NAS-5 (2-Diazo-1-Napthol-5-Sulfonic Acid, Sodium Salt) | 1 kg | Tobias Acid (Purity Min. 97%) | 0.70 kg |
| A-3700 | Tobramycin 300 mg / 5 ml Nebuliser Solution (Each ml contains Tobramycin Ph. Eur. 60 mg) | 1 Number Pack | Tobramycin | 315 mg/Vial |
| A-3701 | Schaeffers Acid | 1 kg | Beta Naphthol | 0.74 kg |
Impact of the New SIONs
- Faster Approvals:
- Regional Authorities (RAs) can now issue Advance Authorisations directly for these products.
- Eliminates the need for case-by-case referrals to the Norms Committee.
- Uniformity in Decision-Making:
- Standardised norms ensure consistent and transparent processing of export authorisations.
- Boost to Exporters:
- Exporters in the chemical and allied sectors benefit from reduced processing times and clearer guidelines.
Why This Matters for Exporters
- Efficiency: The new SIONs simplify the process for obtaining Advance Authorisations, making it easier for exporters to plan and execute their shipments.
- Clarity: With fixed input-output ratios, exporters have a clear understanding of permissible imports, reducing uncertainty and compliance risks.
- Competitiveness: Streamlined procedures help Indian exporters remain competitive in global markets by reducing administrative delays.
